No Marineplatz Party if Bayern Munich win DFB-Pokal
· Yahoo Sports
Bayern Munich missed out on the Champions League final but won the Bundesliga with flying colors and are looking to secure the domestic double by virtue of the DFB-Pokal final s. VfB Stuttgart this weekend at the Olympiastadion in Berlin. They ended their league campaign on a high note with their 5-1 win over FC Köln at the Allianz Arena on the final matchday, following up from their 1-0 win at VfL Wolfsburg after some shaky results in and around their two Champions League semifinl legs against Paris Saint-Germain.
After the Köln win, Bayern was able to lift the Meisterschale and properly celebrate all weekend, capped off with their traditional celebration at Marienplatz plaza in the heart of Munich and club party. It was well and truly a Bundesliga season to celebrate having scored 122 goals and having won 28 of the 34 matches and only losing once, but there’s still silverware to be won and Vincent Kompany will want to do everything in his power to get his hands on the Pokal on Saturday.

Ahead of the Pokal final in Berlin, Bayern club president Herbert Hainer confirmed to Bild (via @iMiaSanMia), that even if Bayern beat Stuttgart in Berlin and claim the DFB-Pokal title for the first time since the summer of 2020, when the 2019/20 campaign was temporarily delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. “They won’t be coming back because the national team players will be joining their national teams two days later. They’ll go home on Sunday and rest for another day or two,” Hainer confirmed.
Unfortunately, cup finals across Europe as well as the Champions League final in Budapest, Hungary, are packed so close to the start of this summer’s World Cup in Mexico, the United States, and Canada, so there really isn’t much time between the Pokal final and the all of Bayern’s internationals to report to their nations for training and friendlies. For Bayern’s German national team contingent, they’ll be switching gears fast from club to country as Germany has a tuneup friendly vs Finland on the 31s of this month as well as on June 6th vs the United States in Chicago. It’s a quick turnaround and doesn’t leave any room for extra celebrations.
