Rumored early Jets schedule wrinkle may offer Aaron Glenn ideal launch
· Yahoo Sports
For years, New York Jets fans have developed something close to seasonal trauma when NFL schedules are released. The routine feels familiar. Stop the train if any of this sounds familiar.

Hope emerges. Then, the schedule actually drops, and reality punches everyone directly in the face. The early portion of the 2025 campaign certainly felt that way.
One year ago, at about this same time, New York found itself staring at a difficult slate almost immediately. For a team trying to stabilize itself, early avalanches can bury optimism before Halloween decorations hit store shelves.
That’s why the latest schedule rumor feels... refreshing. If reports prove accurate, the Jets could begin the 2026 season with a road trip to face the Miami Dolphins. That's seemingly a winnable game followed by another potential outing, a home opener against the Minnesota Vikings.
Head ciacg Aaron Glenn and his Jets certainly need some early momentum.
No one is confusing the expected pair of opening games with a free pass. Still, compared to some of the AFC horrors, New York could have drawn? That feels manageable. That's important because first impressions matter for new regimes.
Glenn doesn’t need his first month resembling an NFL stress test designed by sadists. He needs competence. He needs progress. He needs proof of concept. The Jets improved this offseason. Geno Smith raises the floor at quarterback. Newly acquired safety Minkah Fitzpatrick brings another piece. He adds veteran intelligence to the secondary. Demario Davis brings leadership. Younger offensive weapons add intrigue.
This roster feels more professional than last season’s chaos experiment. That said, progress still needs its runway. New York could land itself a scheduling advantage. Per Gary Myers, the Jets could wind up tackling their rivals in Week 1.
@nyjets at Dolphins opening week according to @HDumpty39 of @DRonESPN on @880ESPNNewYork. Rick had entire Week 1 schedule with Vikings at Jets in Week 2. No international game for @Giants. I was told 2 months ago Giants would be playing abroad but apparently was wrong.

Miami offers immediate intrigue, especially with Minkah facing his former organization. Defensive coordinator Brian Duker also brings familiarity to the matchup. He lent his talents to South Beach during the 2024 and 2025 seasons.
South Florida has historically treated the Jets like an unwelcome houseguest, but based on where both organizations are, this game seems to be relatively winnable.
Then comes the Minnesota Vikings, maybe. Therein lies another talented but hardly unbeatable opponent with enough uncertainty to make that game also feel winnable.
The larger schedule remains difficult. The AFC West lurks. Games vs. the NFC West won’t be kind. There are landmines everywhere, but if these rumored opening matchups hold, the Jets cannot afford to stumble out of the gate.
A 1-1 split would feel acceptable. 2-0 would create immediate buzz. 0-2? That would feel painfully familiar. The schedule will get uglier soon enough. If these early opportunities are indeed real, the Jets need to stack wins now before the NFL inevitably reminds them how unforgiving life in the AFC can be.
