The Bafana Bafana star has emerged as one of the frontrunners for the PSL Footballer of the Season award after an outstanding campaign in which he scored 10 league goals and registered eight assists.

Widely regarded as one of the brightest young talents in South African football, Mofokeng’s impressive performances have significantly boosted his market value.

According to Afroscout, the 20-year-old is currently Africa’s highest-valued U23 player, with an estimated worth of R68.6 million.

Orlando Pirates to lose Mofokeng

He has already represented South Africa at the 2025 AFCON and is expected to be included in the squad for the upcoming FIFA World Cup in June.

With two league matches still remaining, Mofokeng also has an outside chance of challenging for the Golden Boot if he can score four more goals before the end of the campaign.

However, the talented winger faces the possibility of missing the Buccaneers’ final match of the season against Orbit College.

A booking against Durban City would rule him out through suspension potentially denying Orlando Pirates fans the chance to see him in what could be his final appearance for the club.

Meanwhile, Mofokeng may not be the only player bidding farewell to the Buccaneers at the end of the season. Veteran midfielder Makhehlene Makhaula has also hinted at retirement if the Buccaneers go on to lift the Betway Premiership title.

“Only God knows. I’m always praying because my wish is the league. We will see, maybe this season it can happen,” said Makhaula.

“It would be a dream come true. When you go to other teams, they don’t even try to fight for the league, but with big teams you must always compete for trophies. Big teams are always fighting for something,” he added.

Orlando Pirates host Durban City at the Orlando Amstel Arena on Saturday afternoon.
