Benavidez finally gave up his quest to lock down a big-money fight against former pound-for-pound king, Canelo Alvarez — who is set to face Christian Mbilli later this year — and decided to make a move up to Cruiserweight for a bigger (literally) challenge. “The Mexican Monster” has long proclaimed that he wants to take on (and defeat) the best, which is a good thing because while he is undefeated (31-0) with 25 knockouts, his resume does leave something to be desired because big names simply aren’t there. That said, it’s never to late to pad that resume and that is just when Benavidez intends to do by attempting to defeat Ramirez. After that, he has his eyes set on Dmitry Bivol, two dangerous foes indeed. Interestingly enough, Ramirez’s lone loss came against Bivol, so if Benavidez can defeat both, it would be a remarkable feat.
As for Ramirez, the 34-year-old Mexican bomber has an impressive record of 48-1 with 30 knockouts. But, like Benavidez, the huge name conquests have eluded him over the years. But, in his last three fights, he won WBO’s, then WBA’s, Cruiserweight straps and defended both after defeating Yuniel Dorticos via unanimous decision. That said, WBO has opted not to sanction this bout after promoters revealed that the new Tollan Tlatequi belt would be at stake. Nevertheless, this fight is for more than just belts, but for bragging rights and future big paydays because the victor will see his stock take a huge bump. This fight may be flying under the radar a bit, but I fully expect it to deliver on all fronts.
How The ’Prelims’ Look:
In one of the featured “Prelims” undercard bouts, fight fans will see Daniel Blancas (14-0) face off against Raul Salomon (16-3) in a 10-round, 168-pound bout. Blancas has won seven of his 14 bouts via knockout and has yet to taste defeat. The 24-year-old American is an orthodox striker with speed to give any foe fits. As for Salomon, the Mexican-born heavy hitter is 27 years of age and comes in with a professional record of 16-3 with one draw. He has 14 knockouts to his credit, so this one could end early.
In Light Heavyweight action, a battle of undefeated combatants will unfold as Juan Carrillo (14-0) takes on Marlon Delgado (8-0) in an eight-round affair. Carrillo is of Colombian descent and represented his country in the 2016 Olympic games. At 13-0, he has nine wins by way of knockout and is coming off a win over Cristian Andres Pena and currently holds WBO’s Inter-Continental title. He is much more experienced than Delgado, representing Ecuador in 2012’s Olympics. He’s an Orthodox puncher with a 75 percent knockout rate.
Dylan Capetillo (1-0) vs. Taron James (0-1) will kickoff the card for free on YouTube. Capetillo is just 17 years of age and is currently fighting under Oscar de la Hoya’s Golden Boy Promotions. He delivered a first round technical knockout victory in his professional debut on April 11, 2026, at The Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas, Nevada, and now he looks to make it two-for-two to start his career against James, who came up short in his professional debut against Jonathan Perez one year ago.
Interest Level: 7.5/10
Munguia (45-2) finally put his drug test failures behind him after a tumultuous year that saw his reputation questioned following his win over Bruno Surace in May 2025. Now, the Mexican-born champion gets his chance to make things better for himself as he battles Jose Resendiz (16-2) for his WBA Super Middleweight title. Resendiz is coming off an impressive and dominant win over Caleb Plant almost one year ago, and now the 27-year-old is in search of his first title defense against his fellow countryman.
Oscar Duarte (30-2-1) was set to face Richardson Hitchins for IBF’s Super Lightweight world title earlier this year before the bout was called off on Hitchins’ side hours before the event, leaving Duarte — who has a knockout loss to Ryan Garcia, as well as his promoter, Oscar de la Hoya, fuming. Duarte is currently on a four-fight win streak and is out to earn himself another title fight when he battles Angel Fierro (24-4-2), who is coming off two straight defeats.
In 154-pound action, Isaac Lucero (18-0) takes on Ismael Flores (17-1-1). Lucero is one of the most exciting up-and-coming contenders who always looks for the finish. And, more often than not, he gets it as he is currently on a seven-fight stoppage streak. As for Flores, the Argentinian is currently on a seven-fight win streak, six via stoppage. He may not be too well known yet, but handing Lucero his first-ever defeat will go a long way in changing that.
Opening up the pay-per-view (PPV) portion of the event will be a Super Bantamweight bout between Jorge Chavez (15-0-1) vs. Tito Sanchez (15-0) battling for WBA’s vacant Continental USA Super Bantamweight title. Chavez (26) has eight knockouts to his name and now the San Diego, Calif., native is out to secure gold fresh off his dominant win over Manuel Flores, whom he fought to a draw with previously. As for Sanchez, he has nine impressive knockouts on his resume and looks to remain undefeated by handing Chavez the first loss of his career. He is coming off a knockout win over Jose Ramirez. In an interesting twist, the aforementioned Flores is one of Sanchez’s training partners, so he would love nothing more than to get revenge for him.
Enjoy the fights!
