The Spartans avenged a setback to the Cougars the day before with a 5-1 victory in the rematch.
Both pitchers — Saranac’s Adrian Barnes and NCCS’ Robert McIntyre — went the distance and allowed just two earned runs combined.
Barnes got the win as he allowed six hits, no earned runs, walked two and struck out five.
McIntyre, meanwhile, surrendered seven hits, two earned runs, walked two and fanned five.
“Barnes and McIntyre both did a good job commanding the zone and using their pitch mix to get ahead in counts,” Saranac coach Robby Knowles said. “Barnes did a good job of missing the barrel and got a lot of weak contact.”
Wyatt Barton led Saranac with two hits and Brody Macomber hit a triple. Jordan Wells’ double was one of the Cougars’ six hits.
Saranac, leading 1-0 after three, tallied four runs in the fourth.
“Macomber and Barton have been solid for us at the plate,” Knowles said. “Macomber had a big two-strike triple that drove in two runs. Barton followed with a RBI single.”

TICONDEROGA — Jackson Dorsett hit for the cycle combined in the two games as the Sentinels swept the Bobcats.
Trevor Blanchard rapped three hits and drove in two runs in the opener, while Parker Davis and Brady Mydlarz each added two hits.
“Jackson Dorsett was strong on the mound in Game 1, and Trevor Blanchard paced us in the leadoff spot by getting on base every time,” Ticonderoga coach Dan Dorsett said. “A big second inning helped us secure the win.
“(Losing pitcher Ahanu) Sequin battled throughout the first game on the mound for NAC.”
In Game 2, Dorsett finished with a single, triple, two home runs and six RBIs. Mydlarz contributed three hits, and both Rowen Bechtold and Owen teRiele had two apiece.
“Rowen Bechtold came in the second inning in an 8-5 game and held NAC scoreless the rest of the game while striking out eight and walking none,” Dorsett said. “He did not allow a baserunner.
“Jackson, Rowen and Brady all hit the ball hard all day. NAC showed good fight in the second game.”
Jackson Bassett’s double was one of three NAC hits in Game 2. The Bobcats have played only one home game all season.
