If Aaron Rodgers retires, in particular, the spotlight will be thrust upon these two young quarterbacks.

It won't be the first time they've battled on a field, although this time it's on the same team.

They matched up in college on Nov. 2, 2024, when Howard played his lone season at Ohio State and Allar was at Penn State.

It was an odd game, ending just 20-13 as defenses ruled the day.

Howard threw a pick-six in the first quarter, spotting Penn State a 10-0 lead.

He rebounded to throw a pair of touchdowns: 25 yards to Emeka Egbuka and 21 yards to Brandon Inniss.

Howard, en route to a national championship, went 16-for-24 for 182 yards and ran 12 times for 24 yards. Ohio State improved to 7-1.

It was Penn State's first loss, and Allar was rough. Against a fierce Buckeyes defense, he was just 12-for-20 for 146 yards and an interception, also running 10 times (including sacks) for 31 yards.

Tyler Warren, who became a Colts first-round pick, ran three times for 47 yards and caught four passes for 47 yards.

This game doesn't actually mean much as far as the Steelers are concerned, but it may show a bit of why Howard was a sixth-round pick and Allar was a fourth-round pick. Faced with great defenses, they both had moments of serious struggle.

The Steelers will need them to have continued to grow since then, because they might have to take very meaningful NFL snaps in 2026.
