The Screaming Eagles won their final two games this past weekend against UT Martin to win their first Ohio Valley Conference series in nearly a month. But when it comes to rivalry matchups it often brings the best out of teams.
“We look forward to this every year,” said outfielder Patrick McLellan. “It’s a fun time it’s a fun game. It’s real energetic, it feels like postseason baseball cause both teams are really going for it. and they’re good and so are we.”
USI’s hitting ability gives them the confidence that they can hang with any team, including the Purple Aces. However, after splitting the series last season Southern Indiana’s senior group doesn’t want to only compete with UE they want to win.
Outfielder Khi Holiday said, “It’s a rivalry that as soon as I stepped on the campus everybody just like let me know what it was. We split last year interconference so if we get this win I’ll be able to graduate and get the next win I’ll be able to graduate with a winning season over UE.”
Southern Indiana host the Purple Aces Wednesday, April 22nd, at the USI Baseball Field at 6 p.m.
