The New York Yankees had to make a tough roster decision last week, DFA’ing Cade Winquest.
Unfortunately for the youngster, the Yankees are bringing Luis Gil back and had to let go of somebody.
The pitcher should eventually get a shot in Major League Baseball once again, but it remains uncertain who's going to give him a look. The right-hander has shown some decent signs throughout the past few months and years, and one writer believes there's a team out there for him.
Patrick McAvoy named Winquest as a player that the Boston Red Sox should at least take a look at after he was DFA’d.
“While this is the case, the Red Sox should take a look at Winquest. He hasn't made his big league debut yet and his numbers in Spring Training weren't great. He had a 7.20 ERA in nine outings out of the bullpen in camp for New York.
“But he made the Yankees' roster. That's an important point because the Yankees have a pitching factory over in New York.”
For Boston, this would be a sneaky good idea considering where it stands on the mound.
Not that the Red Sox are in a horrible spot on the bump, but adding a 25-year-old who has decent stuff and has proven that throughout his minor league career would be a nice addition.
The Yankees were also about to use him multiple times throughout the year, but he never ended up coming out of the bullpen. This isn't some guy who the Yankees just had at the end of the bench or the end of the bullpen and weren't ever going to give a chance.
