Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Divisional Railway Manager Pankaj Tyagi defended the 90-degree railway overbridge (ROB) in Aishbagh area, which has drawn nationwide attention and sparked debate over its design, stating that the Railways always opts for such structures as they are cost-effective.

Addressing media persons on Friday, Tyagi said the Railways has appointed a high-level team to prepare a report. Notably, state government had suspended seven officials, ordered an inquiry against a retired official, and blacklisted the construction firm as well as the design consultant over the faulty design of the ROB in Aishbagh in Bhopal.
The DRM said the Bhopal Railway Division generated a total income of Rs 896.38 crore in FY 2025-26, marking an increase of 13.99% compared to the previous year. It recorded a 4.03% increase in freight loading (tonnage) and a 5.42% rise in wagon utilisation.
Passenger revenue stood at Rs1,013.78 crore, registering an increase of 6.50%. Revenue from unreserved tickets rose by 12.32%, Tyagi said.
He added that sundry revenue, or non-fare revenue, saw a significant increase of 125.18%, exceeding the target by 5.82%. Parking revenue increased by 34.09%, surpassing the target by 28.46%. Revenue from ATMs rose by 424.13%, while revenue from Pay & Use services increased by 22.93%.
