Woods, 50, faces charges of driving under the influence (DUI), property damage, and refusal to submit to a lawful test on Friday, March 27. That’s because the Land Rover he was driving tipped on its side after it clipped a pickup truck pulling a trailer in Jupiter Island, Florida. There were no injuries.

The 15-time major champion spent about eight hours in the Martin County jail before his release.

But even after other crashes in 2009 and 2021 and a DUI arrest in 2017, Woods has told friends he will continue to drive himself, according to the People story. TMZ posted the story on X.

The reason is simple. People’s source said Woods “doesn’t want anyone to watch over him or know what he is doing. … “He is not a social butterfly and prefers to hang around his home with his kids, or hitting balls, or playing video games. He despises public scrutiny.”

Woods is dating Vanessa Trump. Meanwhile, he and ex-wife Elin Nordegren share a daughter, 18-year-old Sam, and son, 17-year-old Charlie.

According to CNN, law enforcement said Woods had been driving erratically in the moments before the latest crash. Also, Woods crawled out of the passenger side of the SUV after it tipped.

The golfer’s other car-related issues include, per Golfweek:

  • On Nov. 27, 2009, Woods crashed into a fire hydrant in his neighbor’s yard. There were no charges.
  • Then, on May 29, 2017, Woods was found passed out in his car, which had damage on the driver’s side. Authorities arrested him, and he pled guilty to reckless driving.
  • On Feb. 23, 2021, Woods had a serious single-car accident in Southern California that authorities say was caused by excessive speed. Woods had leg surgery to fix serious leg injuries. Law enforcement ruled the crash an accident.

Woods returned to competitive golf on March 24 in the TGL with Jupiter Links GC, for the first time since undergoing back surgery. He hoped to play in the Masters Tournament, which begins April 9 at Augusta National.
