Michigan football coach Whittingham on new GM Dave Peloquin

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- It had appeared that new Michigan football head coach Kyle Whittingham was going to stand pat when it came to his front office and recruiting department, only to see it completely overhauled (and that's not done yet) in February.

Out was general manager Sean Magee, who had spearheaded the new era of college football in Ann Arbor after spending a few seasons with the Chicago Bears. In is former Notre Dame staffer Dave Peloquin, who had spent a year in the NIL space with Athlete's First.

On Tuesday, Whittingham shared more about what Peloquin brings to the table and how he fits into the culture that is being built by the new Wolverines head coach.

"Obviously, we’re in lockstep with where we want to go and what our vision is," Whittingham said. "We wouldn’t have hired him, so we did a lot of research. Making that hire, it’s a critical hire. Your GM is one of the linchpins of your program, and we are absolutely on the same page. Dave is just a completely meticulous, thorough, organized individual, and that’s what you have to be in recruiting. You better be very meticulous and thorough or you’re going to get buried.

"I’m excited to have him on board. He’s put together a really good supporting cast for himself in his department there, and we’re still one or two bodies away from being complete. But Dave brings a lot to this program, and we’re excited to have him."

At this juncture, there hasn't been any newly announced staff to replace Sam Popper and Albert Karschnia in the recruiting department. However, Peloquin did bring in a superstar in former USC staffer Skylar Phan to oversee on-campus recruiting.
