Man charged in Toronto shooting faces new charges in York Region shooting

A man now charged in the shooting of a Vaughan residence in January also faces charges in Toronto for a shooting last month.

York Regional Police said in release Thursday that several bullets stuck a vehicle parked in a driveway in the area of Madeira Ave. and Genoa Rd. on Jan. 18 around 5 a.m.

Investigators determined at least two suspects were involved in the shooting. No injuries were reported.

Then on Feb. 15 just after 6 a.m., officers in Toronto were called for a person with a gun in the Weston Rd. and Lawrence Ave. W. area. Police said a firearm was discharged during a dispute and a suspect was arrested at the scene.

Officers also allegedly seized a loaded 9-mm handgun from the suspect.

Shane Harty, 27, was charged with five firearm-related offences in the incident — discharge of a firearm with intent to wound, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, carrying a concealed weapon, and possession of a loaded restricted firearm.

Now, York police say that after collaboration with their Toronto counterparts, Harty has been identified as the suspect in the January shooting and the firearm involved was the one seized last month. The second suspect remains outstanding.

Harty faces the following charges in York Region: Oossession of restricted firearm with ammunition, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a firearm knowing its possess is unlawful, unauthorized possession of a firearm in a motor vehicle, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, discarded a firearm into a place in a reckless manner, possession of property obtained by crime, and mischief to property over $5,000
