Indian fighter jet crashes in Assam, search underway

A Su-30MKI fighter jet of the Indian Air Force on Thursday crashed in the Karbi Anglong area of Assam. Search operations were underway.

The aircraft was on a training mission when it crashed about 60 km from Jorhat, from where it had taken off.

The cause of the crash was not immediately clear.

It had lost contact with the ground controller at 7.42 pm, the Air Force said.

The Air Force has a large number of Su-30MKI fighters. The first batch of the aircraft was inducted in 2002.
