It was arguably one of Chelsea’s most complete performances under Rosenior so far, with control maintained throughout following a shaky opening two minutes. The lowest rating we handed out was a six, which speaks to just how strong the team looked across the pitch.
While Joao Pedro’s hat-trick pushed his tally to 17 goals and nine assists across all competitions, the victory wasn’t just down to him alone.
Alejandro Garnacho’s role shouldn’t be overlooked either. He often sparked Chelsea’s attacks by carrying the ball forward and taking on Matty Cash directly.

Liam Rosenior had plenty of positive things to say about the winger’s effort.
“He was outstanding. I’ve had a lot of conversations with him. I said to him, ‘I knew he would play well tonight’, just because of how he’s training.”
“When you’re professional, you do everything right on the training pitch and take it onto the pitch. The intensity he has trained at, it’s no coincidence he’s played like that today.”
“I love how unselfish he was to set up the goal for Joao.”
Joao Pedro hits landmark hat-trick as Chelsea dominate Villa
Joao Pedro netted a hat-trick at Villa Park, surpassing Didier Drogba’s tally from his debut campaign at Stamford Bridge.
It wasn’t just the goals that stood out. Even with only 42 touches and a passing accuracy of 56%, he was heavily involved. He also completed one dribble, took four shots on target, provided an assist, made two tackles, and won six duels.
Liam Rosenior had plenty of praise for Pedro after the match. Speaking to Peter Crouch, he said:
“Scary. But all of them, the age that they are, it’s a joy to work with.
“His mentality, he’s a warrior, a brilliant footballer, but he’s strong, he’s physical. We’ve worked on his positioning in the box. Two of his goals I’m delighted with because they’re literally in the six-yard box.”
