Vincent Kompany cites Pep Guardiola’s massive influence on coaching philosophy
· Yahoo Sports
Bayern Munich has seen great coaches come and go throughout its history. One such example is Pep Guardiola, who coached the Bavarians after taking a break from coaching FC Barcelona. The Spaniard would go on to become Manchester City head coach where his captain was none other than Vincent Kompany, who is now the current Bayern coach. As such, you can count on Pep being a sort of role model for the Belgian.
“The best coach I’ve had was of course Pep Guardiola. He opened up my understanding of football,” Kompany said (as captured by X account @iMiaSanMia). “I’m not trying to do things the same as Pep. Pep is different, he was the best. I took certain things from every coach I worked with. (Roberto) Mancini, Huub Stevens were also good examples — you take things from every coach to write your own story.

“It’s not really about tactics. It’s about this mentality to always want to win everything, to see every game as an important game, no difference between a game against your main rival and a game against a team from the second division. Having this mentality to always be there.”
Most of you know Huub Stevens and his 297 stints as Schalke coach, so for him to guide the Royal Blues to steady campaigns and be positive influence on Kompany, he must be that good.
