The American men duplicated the feat, knocking off Canada in overtime, 2-1 as well.

Boston Bruins goalie Jeremy Swayman and defenseman Charlie McAvoy both helped the men's group earn the gold and were later in the locker room when Team USA had a video call with President Donald Trump.

Trump invited the men's team to the White House during the call and joked that he’d have to invite to do the same for the women to avoid being impeached, which brought laughter from the group.

Swayman addressed the controversy on Wednesday, saying he and his teammates "should've reacted differently" and on Thursday, McAvoy echoed the netminder's words.

"Certainly sorry for how we responded to it in that moment," the latter said, according to MassLive's Matt Vautour. "Things just happened really quick there. If you know the men’s team and the relationships we have and the time we spent with the women’s team, it’s certainly not reflective of how we feel and look at them and their accomplishment. What they did was unbelievable."

There were 20 of the 25 men's hockey team members in attendance for Trump's State of the Union address on Tuesday night, including the Bruins' duo.

The women's team declined Trump's initial invitation, though the president said on Tuesday that they'd be visiting "soon."
