Jose Riveiro began his tenure as AIK Fotboll head coach with a 2-0 defeat to Vasteras SK in the Swedish Cup on Sunday.

The Spanish mentor took over the reins last month, ending speculation of a possible return to the Betway Premiership.

Riveiro was unattached following a tumultuous spell with Egyptian giants Al Ahly, where he was sacked three months into the job.

The 50-year-old tactician, who spearheaded the 12-time African champions in the FIFA Club World Cup, registered one win in the seven matches he oversaw in the Red Devils' dugout.

In contrast, Riveiro enjoyed success with South African heavyweights Orlando Pirates, guiding the Buccaneers to five domestic cup titles during his time at the helm.

Now, he is embarking on a new journey in Sweden, and will undoubtedly be eager to get off the mark when his team faces second division side IK Oddvold in the same cup competition on Saturday.

The Svenska Cupen is divided into seven groups comprising of four teams each, with the winner of the group progressing to the next stage of the competition.

With AIK currently sitting bottom of Group 7 ahead of the final two matches, it remains to be seen whether Riveiro can guide his charges to the next phase of the tournament.
