The host Panthers shattered the Muskingum Valley League Tournament scoring record and produced four champions to claim the Small School Division title, while rival Sheridan took the Big School crown on Feb. 21.
New Lex totaled 294 points, shattering the old mark it set in 2020 with 232. The Panther had 13 place fourth or better in winning the Small School Division by 138 points, with runner-up Maysville totaling 156. That would have been good for third overall between the divisions.
Brody McNabb (103 pounds), Danny Waite (138), Tyson Spicer (138) and Harrison Ratliff (144) won their finals matches in dominant fashion to lead the way.
Chase Shriner, on the heels of three wins at the state duals, dropped a 5-2 overtime decision in the finals to John Glenn's Kian Barton, while Ashton Thurman (113), Gunner Patton (126), Hunter Hinkle (157) and Luke Thompson (165) were runner-up.
New Lex coach David Ratliff, who expressed his disappointment in some of his team's individual performances at the duals, was far more pleased following this event.
"Last week I said we left some points out there, but today I thought they turned the corner as far as expectations and wrestling up to their ability," New Lex coach David Ratliff said.
Waite, Spicer and Ratliff continue to be hammers in the middle of the lineup, while freshman McNabb, ranked second in Division II by Borofan before taking a loss at the state duals, bounced back with a dominant showing that included a 10-2 win against Sheridan's Seth Johnson in the finals.
"They have to keep leading by example and do everything right as far as their diet, their training regimen and stuff," David Ratliff said. "If they do that, I think they will do special things."

Owen became a three-time MVL champion, along with Spicer and John Glenn senior Dominic Bates (175).
John Glenn's trio of Barton and classmates Owen Edwards (157) and Dominic Bates (175) impressed in their title wins, with Bates earning Most Outstanding Wrestler honors in the Big School. Earlier, he recorded his 150th career win.
"I just want to leave a mark and do the best that I can," Bates said.
Maysville's Carter Abella earned Most Outstanding Wrestler in the Small School following his title at 126, while teammate Ziggy Sandobal took the 113-pound crown and Walker Archer (132), Jayce Daniels (14) and Jerik Winland (175) were runner-up.

Robert Dorsey, of Philo, was runner-up at 138 and Luke Skinner, of Sheridan, second at 150 after defaulting with a leg injury in his match with Ratliff.
